Floating Points & Joy Orb mixes

Amongst a slew of booming mixes I’ve feasted on recently, there are two mixes that stand out for me. Since announcing their arrival with Hyph Mngo and Vacuum Boogie [although Esthian III was top] respectively, it seems a Joy Orbison and Floating Points still know how to make a real good old school mixtape banging out some timeless soul and disco.

BSRkR01 has been knocking around for a while, you can get a copy over at Discobelle. Following his dreamy sounscape sound,  it is a downtempo mix of 80s soul, the type that just on the right side of fromage Alicia Myer’s ” I Want to Thank You”, noughties shouty space funk James Pants’ “We’re Through” and some newer cuts.

Floating Points “My Plastic People” over at XLR8R – coasts through a masterful collection of some of the finest oft overlooked disco, soul, latin and jazz to have drifted across the Pond over the last 30 years. Highlights abound – Larry Heard, Deniece Williams, Esther Phillips and Gil Scott Heron, I could go on…

Jugend Klub!

Friday gone, I DJ’d for the lovely people at Jugend Klub and to mark the momentous occasion I did a little mix for their blog (A mix which was also given out as a free CD on the night). The artwork was done courtesy of Mr John Napier and apologies for exposing those pasty legs to the public..
