THE HARE AND HOUNDS V2
WEDS NOVEMBER 9TH

GARDENS AND VILLA – http://gardensandvilla.bandcamp.com/

Signed to the mighty Secretly Canadian records (Which is a seal of approval in itself…Anthony and The Johnsons, Jens Lekman, JJ, Yeasayer, Magnolia Electric Co..), Santa Barbara’s Gardens and Villa will be bringing big hooks and summer vibes to the UK for the first time in Nov. Take the pop sensibilities of early Blur, put it through a 80′s synth and then imagine them covering Talking Heads ‘Speaking In Tongues’ record and you come close to capturing the sound of G & V.

ALBUM REVIEWS..

FLY MAG ’4 / 5′ – ‘A delicate, smoky slice of romance that marks the Santa Barbara Quintet out as next in line to Grizzly Bear…Utterly Stunning.

VICE MAG – 7 / 10 – Languid and Dreamy pop songs that sound like a spooky Shins.

PANDAS AND PEOPLE – http://soundcloud.com/pandas-and-people

Since bursting onto the live scene about 12 months ago, Pandas have developed into one of Brum’s most exiting prospects. Now with the album recorded, the band have hit the live circuit developing their left of centre alt sound into a tidal wave of melodies and harmonies.

IS I CINEMA – http://www.myspace.com/isicinema

Is I Cinema’s epic live set made them one of our favourite live bands last year so it’s with excitement that they’ve been busy recording new material, of which they’ll be performing no doubt at This is Tmrw.

THISISTMRW welcomes NEON INDIAN

Hailing from the same Glo-Fi galaxy as the likes of Washed Out and Toro Y Moi, but with a signature sound all of their own, Texan songwriter Alan Palomo’s NEON INDIAN will be hitting the Hare & Hounds as part of their ERA EXTRANA tour.

Last year we instantly fell in love with debut album ‘Psychic Chasms’, evoking a song-driven Daft Punk on tranquilisers, drenched in gloopy 8-bit bedroom funk. Last month’s follow-up album took that sound one step further with added chainsaw guitars and glorious widescreen production, helped along by a certain FLAMING LIPS’ studio wizard David Fridmann…

One listen to Era Extrana and we know you’ll be sucked into Palomo’s world like a playable character from a half-remembered 80s console game.

If I’m preaching to the converted, check out this awesome soundcloud mix which surfaced two days ago, and get lost in the influences behind Neon Indian’s music

Neon Indian will be playing with Trophy Wife and Vicotories at Sea at The Hare & Hounds on Thursday November 17th. Go HERE to visit the Facebook event page for further info, and go HERE to get the cheapest ticket deal (£6). £10 on the door.

Lewes Herriot Interview

I stumbled across this nifty little interview with our resident artist Lewes Herriot
last week, a FUSED magazine article from June this summer just gone. Don’t know how we managed to miss this one, but better late than never!

…Lewes Herriot is as fundamental to the thisistmrw brand as the bands and DJs we’ve been booking for the past 6 years. His distinctive style has evolved from watercolour hybrids to etchings and to what currently look like still frames from some alternate reality award-winning anime series; always featuring his own wild creations, always telling some sort of abstract story In their own right. Nearly every artist we have ever hosted has commented on his designs, and it’s little things like this which have helped keep our gigs thriving for so long.

The 60+ posters he has illustrated for us over the years have been so popular with audiences that, on the night of the gig, we often find ourselves without any physical copies to pin up within the venue, as they always get nabbed off the walls, presumably rolled into handbags or trouser-legs as we can only imagine…

All of his work for us, along with his prolific artwork for bands like Johnny Foreigner, Tubelord and even Top Shop – not to mention an even more impressive portfolio of stuff he’s created simply for himself (with prints available to buy – so stop stealing our posters!) can be found at his sites HERE and HERE and HERE

In the meantime, we’ll look forward to more and more jaw-dropping posters, an exclusive comic/art combo with Johnny Foreigner’s forthcoming album, and of course that elusive Lewes Herriot graphic novel/children’s book, which the world needs more than he’ll ever know!
